Preparing for your birth

​For mom

• 2 packets normal sanitary pads

• 2 packets maternity pads

• 6-8 inco sheets (celstof matjes) (Botika or from the maternity pack)

• 1 digital thermometer

• Bottle to rinse after going to the toilet (Botika, clean water bottle of jug is also ok)

• 1 packet nursing pads

• If breastfeeding then some breastfeeding bras 

• Some loose underwear or disposable underwear

For the baby

• Bottle (50cc) alcohol 70%

• A packet cotton pads 

• 2 packets sterile gauzes 16x16 cm

• 1 packet disposable diapers or a packet of reusable diapers from (eco) cotton, synthetic fabric or bamboe

• 1 digital thermometer (so 2 in total)

• Soapfree wash/shower gel

• Diapercream (our favourite is calendula from weleda)

• A jar of vaseline

• 2 babycapes

• 12-18 muslin cloths to dry the baby (a few bigger muslin cloths can also be handy) 

• 6 muslin washcloths

• 6 burping cloths

• 2 mattress protectors

• 3 bedsheets

• 3 top sheets

• A blanket

• 8-10 rompers or babysuits

• 4 sets of clothes size 50/56

• 6 pairs of socks

• Crib or cot with rails of max 7cm distance between 

• Hard plastic bath with stand (height 100/105cm) or a tummy tub

• If bottle feeding, bottles with teet (newborn size) and formula​

General

• Disinfectant soap

• Small trash bags 

• Dettol/Savlon

Extra for home birth

• 2 buckets with trash bags

• 1 washing basin or small plastic tub

• Emergency lighting (strong flashlight with batteries or with a plug)

• 1 maternity mattress largest size

• A plastic mattress protector or tarp

• 8-10 extra inco sheets  (totaal 16)

• Extra packet sterile gauzes 16x16

• 1 cordring of cordclamp
