Contraception is also important if there is no (longer) pregnancy wish.
When is an IUD not a good choice

if you are or may be pregnant

if you have an STD (if in doubt, get tested).

if you have unexplained bleeding outside of your periods

if you have unexplained lower abdominal pain

if you know that your uterus has an abnormal shape or fibroids
-
if you have previously had an expulsion (prolapsed and/or lost coil)
-
if you have breast or cervical cancer, or any other hormone-dependent tumour
